E-bikes left off US list of Chinese goods recommended for tariff relief

Will tariffs on Chinese e-bikes be lowered?

The US-China Board of Trade review released on September 27, 2026 does not include e-bikes, bicycles or bike parts in its list of Chinese products recommended for tariff relief. Separately, a 12.5% Section 301 tariff has applied since July 24 to imports from 54 countries, including China, Taiwan and Vietnam.

PeopleForBikes reported on September 28, 2026 that the administration had released the US-China Board of Trade review results on September 27. The list of Chinese products recommended for future tariff relief leaves out e-bikes (HTS 8711), bicycles (HTS 8712) and bicycle parts (HTS 8714).

Section 301 tariffs took effect July 24, 2026, replacing a 10% Section 122 tariff. The rate is 12.5% for 54 countries, including the main bike producers Taiwan, China, Cambodia, Vietnam and Malaysia, and 10% for six others, including the EU, Canada and Mexico. Bicycle products are not excluded.

For Taiwan, the EU, Japan, Korea and Switzerland, the Section 301 tariff does not stack on top of the regular (MFN) duty. Canadian-made bikes covered by USMCA are exempt.

Most e-bikes sold in the US are imported, so these duties feed into prices. We have not found a 2026 price change from a major brand that cites them.
