Across 76 popular US e-bikes on sale today, a 180 lb rider at 16 mph on rolling hills gets a median 64% of the advertised range. Riding on throttle alone over hills, the median drops to 43%.
On our model of a 672 Wh commuter, range drops from 44 mi at 70°F to 36 mi at 32°F and 31 mi at 20°F. Lithium-ion batteries deliver less energy when cold, and the loss reverses once the battery warms up.
Every update cites its sources and links to the bikes it affects. We add notes when a recall, a safety rule, a law, a rebate or a launch changes something on this site.
