How the simulator works

It adds up the power your bike needs at the wheel: rolling resistance from your tires and total weight, air drag (which grows with the cube of speed), and climbing. Your pedaling covers part of it; the motor covers the rest at 78% (hub) or 75% (mid-drive) efficiency. Battery energy divided by that consumption gives the range.

Only 90% of a battery's rated watt-hours are treated as usable, cold air and cold cells are accounted for, and the result is shown as a ±20% band. The model reproduces all 12 independent range tests it was checked against within that band. Read the full methodology.

Parameters: bike (a bike from the list, or custom), lb rider weight, cargo, mph, pedal (none, relaxed, moderate, strong), terrain (flat, rolling, hilly, climb) with grade, temp (°F), wind (mph headwind), surface (paved, gravel, dirt) and health (battery %). For a custom bike add wh, motor and weight.

Example: Velotric Discover 3, 250 lb rider, throttle only, hilly.
